Baltic Hub is set to expand its intermodal capabilities at the Port of Gdańsk after the Port of Gdańsk Authority granted the terminal operator a 30-year lease for a 27-hectare site adjacent to its T2 deepwater terminal. The site will be developed into a new rail and container-handling area, adding landside capacity to one of Poland’s key container gateways.
The planned development includes a new rail siding capable of handling 750-metre-long freight trains, additional container storage yards, and new container-handling equipment. The project will be delivered in phases, with the site’s existing rail access and proximity to the T2 terminal providing a direct connection between maritime and inland freight operations. The expansion is also designed to increase rail capacity and create greater opportunities for shifting cargo from road to rail.
For shippers and logistics providers moving cargo through Central and Eastern Europe, the development highlights the growing importance of port-rail connectivity in building efficient intermodal supply chains. Baltic Hub already positions itself as a connection between Asia, the European Union, Central and Eastern European markets, and the wider Baltic region; expanding its rail infrastructure strengthens that role by increasing the terminal’s ability to connect ocean freight with inland transportation networks.
