Two Ground Workers Killed After Cargo Plane Skids Off Runway in Hong Kong
Early Monday morning, a Boeing 747 cargo jet leased by Emirates and operated by ACT Airlines veered off the north runway at Hong Kong International Airport after landing from Dubai. The aircraft crashed through perimeter fencing and struck a security patrol vehicle, dragging it into nearby waters.
Tragically, the two airport security personnel inside, aged 30 and 41, were killed, one at the scene and the other after being taken to hospital.
All four crew members were rescued without life-threatening injuries.
The aircraft wasn’t carrying cargo, and the runway excursion occurred under conditions the airport authority described as “suitable for landing.”
The northern runway is closed pending investigation, while flights continue on the other two.
Investigators have launched a full inquiry into aircraft systems, operations, and maintenance records.
